Grammar Grandma Gets the Grumps!

“I HAVE to get something off my chest!” says Grandma.

“The simple past tense of the verb ‘to write’ is WROTE.

And, yet, I’ve heard many ADULTS say: ‘I writ this last night!’ or ‘she writ it for me.’

For the love of Grammar, it’s ‘I wrote!’
‘She wrote!’

I’m not perfect, I make mistakes like everyone else. But, ‘I writ’, it’s like putting Marmite in a Lemon Meringe Pie.

It’s a shock and it’s painful.”
